About KVK
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Bhilwara was established in the year 1992 known as technology centre of the district. KVK is situated at Agarpura Chouraha, Suwana, Bhilwara which is 10 km far from district headquarter on Bhilwara – Kota National Highway. KVK has total 11.25 ha land, out of which area under crop is 4 ha, orchards in 3.5 ha, 0.75 ha land under demonstration unit and farm pond and remaining land is under building & road.
The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Bhilwara is an innovative first line science based transfer of technology project, functioning under the auspicious guidance of the ICAR, State Govt. of Rajasthan & Maharana Pratap University of Agriculture & Technology, Udaipur. KVK has been established for the transfer of latest & proven technologies in Agriculture & Allied fields in order to increase the productivity, potentials & to bridge the time lag between technologies generation at the research institutions & its transfer to the farmer’s fields. It aims to increase self employment, opportunities among farmers, farm women & rural youths. KVK functions on the collaborative participations of scientists, ext. workers & farmers by the approach of “seeing is believing” and “Learning by doing” to transfer Agricultural/Animal Husbandry, Horticulture & home science technologies to bridge the gap between production and productivity and to increase self employment opportunities. It offers skill and knowledge oriented trainings in multidisciplinary areas like crop production and plant protection, Horticulture, Animal Sciences and Fisheries, Home Science and Agricultural Engineering etc. The KVK is the light house of knowledge to the farming community of the district.
Thrust Area
According to the changing agricultural scenario of the district, the thrust areas have been discribed as below :
- Promoting Organic Farming and IPM technologies.
- Farm mechanization and scaling up of irrigation water.
- Scientific feeding, breeding and management of existing livestock.
- Diversification of farming systems for higher productivity and profitability by increasing area under fruits, vegetables and spices.
- Empowerment of farm women by improving health, hygiene, nutrition status, drudgery reduction and vocational trainings for employment generation and value addition.
Mandates of KVK
- Organization of short and long term vocational training programmes in agriculture and allied science for the interested rural youth, farmers and farm women for generating higher production on farm and self employment.
- To organize front line demonstrations on major cereals, oilseeds and pulses crops and other enterprises related to agriculture to generate production data and feedback information.
- Plan and conduct in service trainings for field functionaries to update them with emerging advances in agriculture areas.
- To conduct on farm testing for identifying technologies in terms of location specific on farmer’s field in the area of Crop production, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Home Science etc. for sustainable land use system.
- Work as resource and knowledge centre of agricultural technology for farming community, Extension personnel’s and voluntary sector for improving the agricultural economy of the district.
- Each KVK is provided with 16 technical and non technical staff by the one Programme Coordinator (Associate Professors Cadre) and Six Subject Matter Specialists (Assistant Professors Cadre) in the discipline of Crop Production, Extension, Horticulture, Plant Protection, Animal Sciences, Home Sciences etc. three Programme Assistants are also provided to assist the Programme Coordinator and his staff to carry out the proper functioning of the KVK.
